An Adaptive RIO (A-RIO) Queue Management Algorithm

چکیده
In the context of the DiffServ architecture, active queue management (AQM) algorithms are used for the differentiated forwarding of packets. However, correctly setting the parameters of an AQM algorithm may prove difficult and error-prone. Besides, many studies have shown that the performance of AQM mechanisms is very sensitive to network conditions. In this paper we present an adaptive AQM algorithm, which we call Adaptive RIO (A-RIO), addressing both of these problems. Our simulation results show that A-RIO outperforms RIO in terms of stabilizing the queue occupation (and, hence, queuing delay), while maintaining a high throughput and a good protection of high-priority packets; A-RIO could then be used for building controlled-delay, AF-based services. These results also provide some engineering rules that may be applied to improve the behaviour of the classical, non-adaptive RIO.

A simulation study of the Adaptive RIO (A-RIO) queue management algorithm
Active queue management (AQM) algorithms are useful not only for congestion avoidance purposes, but also for the differentiated forwarding of packets, as is done in the DiffServ architecture. It is well known that correctly setting the parameters of an AQM algorithm may prove difficult and error-prone. Besides, many studies have shown that the performance of AQM mechanisms is very sensitive to ...

In this paper, we study why the current assurance services (AS) architecture with pro lers/markers at edge routers and with queue management mechanisms (RIO) at core routers cannot achieve throughput assurance and fairness. Based on the ndings of the simulation study, we propose an enhanced version of the time sliding window (TSW) pro ler, called the enhanced TSW (ETSW). We also design two enha...
متن کاملOptimized RIO for DiffServ Networks
Even though Differentiated Services with Assured Forwarding provide bandwidth and other guarantees, the equilibrium queue size of the router depends on network conditions as well as network settings. The queuing delay guarantees are not possible with the present framework. Also the absence of priority flows in networks affects the utilization of the router. We propose the Optimized RIO algorith...
متن کاملEmpirical study of buffer management scheme for Diffserv assured forwarding PHB
The IETF Differentiated Services Working Group has recently standardized the Assured Forwarding (AF) Per Hop Behavior (PHB). RFC 2597 recommends that an Active Queue Management (AQM) technique be used to realize the multiple levels of drop precedence required in the AF PHB. The most widely used AQM scheme is RED (Random Early Detection). There are several ways to extend RED to a Multilevel RED ...
متن کاملPerformance Evaluation of Aqm Algorithms for Pgm Based Group Communication in Dvmrp Multicasting Network
Queue management schemes at the routers and congestion avoidance schemes at the end points cooperate to provide good congestion solutions in computer networks. While queue management schemes are still being developed, research on congestion avoidance has come a long way to serve the bandwidth requirement of the networks. Because of considerable lack on the evaluation research work, there is no ...
